YHEC- Youth Hunter Education Challenge!

Star valleys 2nd Annual YHEC!!

This event is for ages 8-18yrs old as of 8/1/22.

12-18 yr old a Hunters Education card is required (state and national rules)

Participants will get to rotate in teams through the 8 stations including....

22 Rifle
Muzzleloaders
Shotgun
Archery
Hunters safety trail
Wildlife ID
Orienteering
Hunter responsibility exam

We will Conclude with an awards ceremony for top scores.

**This is not a way to obtain the Hunters ED card needed for hunting! Just a fun learning experience testing your knowledge and skills.

2024 Registration you may turn in forms starting April 10th 2024!

Please download and email or text us the completed registration and waiver form.

Please print and go over the rules with your kids so everyone knows them before the event!

Ages are 8-18 as of 1/1/24

**kids ages 12-18 are required to hold a hunter education card to participate. Please send a copy with your enrollment or have a copy with you the day of the event.

There is a $10 entry fee per participant. This helps cover ammo and any needed supplies. You can Venmo @ Hanna-Buxman or message us for other arrangements to collect fee!

Please bring your own equipment if you have it (bow and arrows, shotgun, .22 rifle, muzzleloaders) We will have some loaners available for those of you that don't have everything. This may give some kids a slight advantage if they are able to bring their own and are familiar with it. Don't let that deter you its meant to be fun and learning. Just like in hunting not everyone has the same equipment and there are all types and skill levels!

** Eye and Ear protection is REQUIRED for all on the firing line at all times! Coaches and volunteers as well. Parents are advised to have some as well for spectating. We may not have this for everyone this year so plan to bring your own!

Be sure to download all 3 documents below. Read the rules over with your participant so no one is caught of guard by anything the day of event. Please fill out wavier and registration and get it back to us ASAP. Space is limited and on a first come first serve basis.

How can I prepare for the Event!?

Preparation will help your over all performance at the event! Remember this is FUN but it's meant to be educational as well!

Practice Shooting if you can and come sighted and ready to go.
Study some animal identification, know them by bone, horn/antler, pelts, tracks or scat, feathers, etc.
Study Hunter safety. Knowing basic laws, Guns, bows, how they operate, know the parts of bullets/shells. carrying positions, ethical hunting practices, basic survival and outdoor safety knowledge etc.
learn about maps and compasses if possible
